      Editorial Assistant Interview

      2 Jun 2022
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Lake Geneva, WI
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Profound Strategy (Lake Geneva, WI) in Jan 2022

      Interview

As a qualified applicant, I encountered a complete lack of respect for my time, energy, and current workload. Rather than thoughtfully reviewing my portfolio (of published material), there was a request to submit to an editing test as well as free work (an amateurish "SEO Exercise"). In the end, I got the distinct impression that my final submissions were completely overlooked. I never received any indication one way or another as to whether they were read, just confirmation that they were indeed received. There was no issue with my composition or editing skills, which left me feeling plagued by a general lack of information. I did, after all, meet all deadline requirements and made myself readily available at the drop of a hat for the full duration of a month-long interviewing process (no scheduled phone calls either, by the way, just surprise ones in the middle of the day, never mind the fact that I had scheduled phone calls with my current position). If there's one word I would use to characterize the interviewing process it would this: "unprofessional." I was genuinely optimistic about my candidacy and enthusiastic about Profound Strategy. I took the time to write this in hopes of sparing others. Don't make the same mistake I did, don't waste your time with Profound Strategy.

      Question 1

As an editor, what is the advice you find yourself sharing with writers most often? Why that advice in particular?

Hi there! I'm sorry to hear about the bad experience you had while interviewing with Profound Strategy. We know that searching for the right job is a difficult, time-consuming process, and we strive to do our best to respect the time of each and every applicant. For example, recently we found that the application process in general had grown longer than it needed to be, and we are working on ideas to shorten it. We'd like to know more about what happened so we can prevent this kind of thing in the future. If you would be willing to share more details with us, you can email careers@profoundstrategy.com. Regardless, we wish you the very best in your next position and growing career!
