      Clinical Assistant I Interview

      Anonymous interview candidate

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Planned Parenthood in Oct 2019

      Interview

I applied for this position on Planned Parenthood's website in September, and an HR manager emailed me about 2.5 weeks later to set up a phone interview. The phone interview asked pretty standard questions about my background and why I want to work for Planned Parenthood. I email the HR manager a thank you note as she said she would make a decision about the next steps by the beginning of the following week. In response to my email, the clinic manager at the Mountain View location emails me to set up a second phone interview. I was a bit surprised since normally the next step in my experience has been in person interview after phone, but made sense the clinic manager wanted to talk to me given that she would be my direct manager. The clinic manager phone interview wasn't very productive in my opinion, as she wanted to ask me questions in Spanish (I'm proficient, not fluent) and if I could stay later than closing time at 5 pm (I'm starting a post-bacc in January, so staying after 5 pm regularly is not guaranteed). This job listing did not list Spanish fluency as a requirement, and if it did, I would not have applied! The HR manager said at the first phone interview they were looking for someone who was bilingual, yet didn't make it seem like my not being bilingual would be a deal breaker (note that I checked PP's website for the job description because maybe the posting did list this trait as preferred but not required). While I understand that job descriptions can change and that maybe being bilingual was an individual clinic's requirement, I wish the HR manager let me know of this requirement before I agreed to the initial interview. I just found out today from the clinic manager that they are not moving forward for an in person interview. I emailed her over the weekend to thank her for my time, and clarify how important being bilingual was for a job description that didn't list it and the possible commute times to my post-bacc program at UC Berkeley Extension's Belmont campus. She didn't answer my questions directly, which I found a bit unprofessional, but wasn't too bothered since I wasn't sure I wanted the job anyway after the recent phone interview and reading reviews on Glassdoor.
