I recently interviewed for a senior/lead platform engineer position at Personio (Berlin). The process took about two weeks and consisted of two rounds,
- Initial screening interview which is a casual conversation with a tech recruiter where we discussed my background, previous experience, and recent projects.
- Hiring manager Interview with a mix of behavioral questions focused on my current role and past experience. There were no technical assessments or coding challenges.
After the interview, I received an email stating that they would not be moving forward due to my lack of experience in developer experience-related projects.
I strongly recommend that recruiters, and especially the hiring manager, carefully review resumes before inviting candidates for interviews. In my case, my resume clearly outlined my focus areas over the last six years, which did not include developer experience and productivity. Despite this, I was invited to an interview with the technical recruiter and the hiring manager, only to be rejected later because my recent experience did not align with their specific requirements.
This misalignment resulted in a wasted effort for both the recruiter, the hiring manager, and myself. The job posting did not clearly state that prior experience in developer experience and productivity was a mandatory requirement. If this had been clearly communicated, I would not have applied, and the company could have focused on interviewing candidates who met the necessary qualifications.
To improve the recruitment process, I strongly suggest that the hiring manager provides a more precise job description, clearly outlining the key requirements.
