I applied online. I interviewed at Penguin Random House in Oct 2021
Interview
The first step was an HR interview that was fairly straightforward, after that I was set up to have an interview with members of the creative team a week later. The interview with the creative team was an 45 min- 1 hour long, and they talked to me about what they liked in my portfolio, details of the job, and I asked them questions about their background and how they started working with the company. I was told that the next step was that Creative Directors would be reviewing to make the final decision. This was an interview with the Avery TarcherPerigree division.
I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Penguin Random House in Jul 2022
Interview
Basic HR questions, but I chose to withdraw my application before continuing on past the initial round because the pay was quite low ($50,000, with room for overtime) HR interviewer was very kind and transparent about everything that they knew on their side.

The first step was a phone interview. I went in for an in-person interview a week later. I spoke with someone in HR first, then an art director. After that, I was asked to take a 30-minute in-office design "test."
