      Training Specialist Interview

      8 Jul 2016
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Optiv

      Interview

Optiv uses HireVue for their screening interviews. It is all done using video. The questions are pre-recorded and you record your response in the HireVue platform. It was a very cold and impersonal experience. There is no interaction with another person during the interview. I had no opportunity to ask questions. You record your answers and submit when you're done. Overall it was a terrible candidate experience.

Thank you for sharing your feedback on our interview process. At Optiv, we’re always looking for ways to improve and enhance our recruitment efforts, and utilizing a forward-looking technology such as HireVue for our first-step interviews is a proof of that innovation spirit rooted in our values. There are many benefits to taking digital interviews, such as convenience, consistency, fairness, and most importantly allowing candidates to show their personality and presentation skills, which can be easily overlooked on paper. We offer an opportunity for all candidates to submit questions at the end of the interview and follow up in person with candidates to provide them with feedback, next steps and maintain the communication flow, however we do realize digital interviewing is not everyone’s cup of tea. For us, it’s simply the first step, and an opportunity to get to know you better. Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience, we wish you best of luck with your job search!

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Optiv

      Interview

Applied online and sent a cover letter. I received a reply copying the recruiter in charge of the posting. The recruiter left me a voicemail two weeks later offering a digital interview - not with a person, but where I would record myself answering questions displayed to me online. I called the recruiter back to leave a voicemail, but did not receive a reply. Two weeks later I received an email from another recruiter asking if I was still interested. I declined due to the lack of professionalism of the previous recruiter, getting the runaround, and my distaste for digital interviews.

Thank you very much for sharing your feedback. It is unfortunate that you had a negative candidate experience when you applied for a position at our company and we apologize on behalf of the whole team for the confusion and inability to connect with the recruiter to discuss this opportunity in more detail. Without this sounding as an excuse, there are instances where team members shift positions and responsibilities and other ones pick up on their workload, which is what has happened in your case. Again, we apologize for any inconvenience that might have caused and certainly do not want this to remain your perception of applying for a position at our company. In fact, there is a Training Coordinator position we have available at the moment that we would like to bring to your attention. If that is something you would be interested in, please consider giving us a second chance. Regarding the digital interview, video interviews are a great way for recruiters and hiring managers to get to know you a little bit better. This experience helps bring your personality, passion and presentation skills to life, something a paper resume simply cannot accomplish. In today’s digital age, we consider our company a progressive and forward-looking employer and we are focused on taking advantage of new technologies that help us streamline hiring processes. Give it a try, this is simply the first step of the interview process and does not replace a face-to-face or phone interview with the hiring manager down the road. Good luck!
