I applied through other source. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Oil Price Information Service (OPIS) (Gaithersburg, MD) in Dec 2013
Interview
They were looking to onboard talent ranging from junior level to senior -- more like a routine sweep of the talent pool than trying to fill a vacancy.
The interview process didn't really have a lot of structure. They asked random questions and for an explanation of what I did in the past. I am not really sure they knew what they wanted. Just someone to wow them. They also asked what my spirit animal was.
My background in supporting a real time data exchange which was infrastructure critical seemed to interest them but I felt they were looking for people that could help them develop mobile applications to help push sales into an under developed part of their market. They weren't looking for technical, capable people. They were looking for talent to develop their department here and now with no training.
They also asked me to come in the day before Xmas Eve which was annoying and screwed up my travel plans. The only reason I am marking these negative is because of the poor scheduling despite me stating it wasn't a good day for me. It would of been nice to meet people I might of worked with as well. If you are going to work somewhere for 5+ years it would be nice to know how well you get along with team mates.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
They asked me to show how I could loop over the words in a sentence backwards.
I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Oil Price Information Service (OPIS) (Gaither, MD) in Apr 2018
Interview
I applied online and got a call from them asking if I was willing to take a Hacker Rank challenge to see if they wanted to call me in for an in-person interview.
I didn't think I did as well as I should have on it, but they still called me in! The interviewer gave a tour of the place: where people worked, the kitchen area, their game room, etc. They had dual monitors set up for their employees, the environment was very nice.
Interview questions [2]
Question 1
They asked their classic burger place question! One other person mentioned it on here, it's the one that goes: "You go to a burger place (I guess they could say any food place), and you get your food to go. When you get home you notice you didn't get what you ordered.
Who's at wrong in this scenario?
The one technical question was reserved for the end. It was to write a program that would reverse the *words in a sentence. Ex:
Input: It's a beautiful day out.
Output: .out day beautiful a It's
It's harder than you think when you have high interview anxiety and you're writing the code on a piece of paper! So if you're going in for a position like this for them, practice writing code on paper instead of typing it.
I got so annoyed at myself because I couldn't do it on the spot, but the second I got home I typed it out in under 3 mins and got it working.
