Went through 3 rounds of interviews (basic HR screening phone interview, video interview with department manager and final in person interview with department manager, including one-on-one and site overview with a potential peer employee). All were very professional and mindful of my time and interviewers were very friendly and encouraging. At the end of my interview person interview, I was given very encouraging feedback and a planned time frame for the job selection process to be completed.
The positives - all interviewers and staff that I encountered were very kind and encouraging. The hiring manager seemed during the interview process to be someone I would really enjoy working with and seemed to truly care about the team (see further notes on the negatives after the interview). I appreciated that they were willing to allow me the chance to meet team members and to see the facility with a peer (without the stress of the manager accompanying) for a good feel and of the “fit”.
The negatives - it is currently 7 months since the position was first posted and I applied. I didn’t get an initial interview call for 4 months (I had nearly forgotten about the position at all). From that point to the in person interview, things went a bit faster/smoother, but it’s now been over 2 months since my in person interview and is past the time frame given for job selection/offers. I sent a follow up email (basically a thank you for meeting with me but with a question, so it did warrant a response) the week after my interview and also sent a second follow up email shortly after the job selection time frame had passed. I received no response from either. Initially, I thought maybe it was just poor communication with this specific manager, but in looking at other interview reviews for Novant, this seems to be fairly common. As a professional, I would hope for more professional courtesy than just being ghosted after spending so much time and effort in the interview process. At minimum, a “no, but thank you for your time” seems to be appropriate. Additionally, the Novant job search dashboard is very vague, so it’s impossible to know if the job has been officially closed.
If you interview, I would specifically ask if you will be notified either way when the job selection process is complete, and I certainly would not hold out for a quick turn around.
