I recently interviewed for the Senior Developer position at Northwestern Mutual, located in Milwaukee, WI. While there were positives in the process, some aspects left room for improvement. Positives: Interview Process: The interview process was smooth, and the team was friendly and professional. They asked relevant questions that aligned with the role and were transparent about their expectations. Timely Communication: The recruiter, was prompt in providing updates and setting clear deadlines for decisions. Areas for Improvement: Salary Transparency: During the discussions, I mentioned my salary expectations of $xxx,000, and based on the initial conversations, I believed this was mutually agreed upon. However, I later learned it was not finalized. This caused confusion and led to time being spent on an offer that ultimately did not market value and my expectations. Flexibility in Negotiations: Despite being offered above their typical range, there was little room for negotiation to meet the market rate Overall Impression: The team left a positive impression, and the role seemed like a great opportunity to contribute to impactful projects. However, clearer communication regarding salary expectations at the outset could have prevented misunderstandings.

Recruiter reached out via LinkedIn, initial phone screening about experience and technology background. Second interview was scheduled within week on Skype, total process took 2 weeks. Second round Skype interview was all technical in nature with 2 software engineers. All questions where about the technologies I used in past and will be useful with NM. Was not able to clear it as there were lot of questions about technologies I haven't used in past 5 years but had experience before. Should have refreshed all.
