1) Application online
2) First round interview (with HR)
3) Second round interview - Assessment center (Four activities - various individuals)
4) Third round (with various departments - team leaders and managers)
5) Fourth round (with various departments - global heads)
First round interview - Pretty chilled interview with the head of recruitment for Investec Asset Management (some other candidates were interviewed by HR). Was about 30 mins in total.
Second round interview: Assessment center - This takes place in Cape Town (they will fly you down. It is a whole day thing. There are four parts to the assessment center: 1) SWOT analysis - about 1.5 hours to read through a company's results and then draw up a SWOT analysis (you will also have access to the internet, calculator and other reports). 2) Presentation to a panel on your SWOT analysis - the panel will be made up of the departments that are looking to recruit a graduate so you need to make a good impression. Based on the presentation the departments will decided on who they are interested in interviewing in round three. They will also ask you questions about the SWOT analysis and yourself. 3) Panel interview with two global heads and one senior trader. This is very chilled, all they wanna do is get to know you and whether you are a good fit for the organisation. They will ask you what prefer for career streams (Operations or Investments - FYI everyone says Investments, so why not surprise them?). 4) Group exercise - this is with a couple other candidates. You will be given a business case and be asked to make a group decision on a certain matter (ours was deciding on a budget for expansion into a new country). This is more about learning how you interact with other and work in a team.
Third round interview - It was really enjoyable. The departments really wanna get to know you, your work style and what your career goals are. There is a huge emphasis placed on culture fit. They really wanna get to know the type of person you are. It can be slightly taxing as they scheduled all my departmental interviews one after each other so there was no break. Each interview was 30 minutes.
Fourth round interview - After round three the department which is most interested and based on your interests you will meet with the global head for that department. It was just more of a formality after round three. Its just another opportunity to get to know you and your interests. None of the questions are new, you will have been asked it already in the previous rounds.
First, third and fourth round will be carried out in Sandton via video call if you are not from Cape Town.
