Difficult interview
Application
I applied online. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at New York Times in Apr 2021
Interview
Overall, interview process was a positive experience. First round with Hiring Manager made it very comfortable to have an honest conversation. Second round included three separate interviews with employees from different departments.

Question 1
Discuss a time you had to overcome a difficult situation
The process was kind of strange from start to finish. First the recruiter scheduled a call with me for a phone screen then never joined the call. I reached back out and they apologized and said they had had a family emergency. Then we scheduled another phone screen which went well. However, it was a red flag when they were asking me if I can do the phone screen on the weekend.
Next I met with the hiring manager, it went well. They did mention that they had had nine managers in the 10 years they had been there which was another red flag.
Scheduling my next round was a little difficult with the recruiter, she would call me after hours around 7pm or so unannounced and again ask me if I wanted to meet on the weekend.
Finally did four back to back interviews with the VP, Product Designer, Hiring Manager again and the product merchandiser I think. It's a bit odd they have to ask you a certain set of questions and not ones that they come up with themselves. All interviews went well except with the designer, I was having trouble trying to follow their questions and when I would try to clarify I wasn't given any examples.
All and all kind of an odd process. The pay range though, was good. Ultimately I never heard back at all and it seems they changed the title of the position to something more junior.
