Meet with HR first, then hiring manager, then 4-5 more candidates. The whole process was about 2+ months. After the second meeting with the hiring manager, they inform me there would be a request for SEO feedback on their website as part of the interview process going forward. Then they send over a list of a dozen questions, with a request to advise what are all the top SEO initiatives you would take with their site.
I met with HR first who quotes me 120K – 170K for the role. I agreed to do it for 150K and they think that’s fine. I then meet the hiring manager, then 4-5 others on the team. They've been hiring for this role for 7+ months and are likely crowdsourcing SEO advice from everyone in an attempt to get free consulting from candidates. I agreed to play the game knowing I’ve been doing this awhile and can outperform others in this area.
After all is done, I’m informed they want to continue moving forward and offer me a base of 120K with a bonus percentage that doesn’t even get me to the agreed upon $150K. They would not accommodate any adjustments.
This company is bottom fishing for candidates that will give away FREE SEO consulting and work for below-market rates, although at this point I’m not even sure they ever had genuine interest in hiring in the first place. They entice you with a high range and then offer the low point. This was a huge waste of time.
