I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Mott MacDonald (Cambridge, England) in Jan 2017
Interview
Following an online application I was called down to the Cambridge office after about month a half of waiting.
They gave me a tour of the office and introduced me to various potentially future co-workers then took me to a small meeting room for a chat.
It was a 1:2 interview with both a senior and more junior interviewee, very conversational and relaxed. Most of the time was spent talking through some of the projects they worked on and things that employees are involved in such as sports.
I had some technical drawings with me so I briefly talked through the project surrounding the drawings which they liked. They pointed out issues with my work in a pleasant and constructive manner.
Having prepared various answers for 'classic interview questions' I didn't have to use any of them.
Following this they had a young engineer formerly of my uni come and have a chat with me about the company, projects and the city - this wasn't formally part of the interview process but was a nice addition.
Coming out of the interview I wasn't sure how it had gone, however, I had a phone call the next day to offer me the job.

Interview
Process was straight forward technical questions followed by a skills based assessment then interview. Overall was okay. Would recommend to anyone interested in pursuing a career in engineering. Be prepared for technical quetsions hold weighting
I applied online. I interviewed at Mott MacDonald in Feb 2025
Interview
The interview included strengths-based questions, technical scenarios, and general “get to know you” questions. The technical part of the interview caught me off guard, but I did my best to address the scenario provided. Unfortunately, the feedback I received was shockingly negative. For every positive comment, there were three harsh criticisms. None of the feedback was constructive—it felt more like a personal attack, tearing me apart rather than offering guidance for improvement.
I felt incredibly uneasy and anxious throughout the process. When answering the strengths-based questions, the interviewer actually told me, “You don’t need to give an example for every question you’ve clearly rehearsed,” and repeatedly made dismissive faces while I was speaking. It felt unprofessional and undermining.
It seems they’ve forgotten this is a graduate position, not a project manager role. I have limited field experience and applied to learn, develop my skills, and grow within their team. This experience was truly awful, and I intend to escalate the feedback I received as it was entirely unnecessary and unhelpful.

Interview
The first round for the graduate program is approximately 15 minutes team meeting with the recruiter, basically more like a screening to know more about your previous experience during university periods and internship or other relevant experience.
