My first interview was a phone interview, with their Director of HR. It went really well, and was more like a conversation than an interview. I gave her an overall description of my work experience, and in particular my experience related to the oil and gas industry. At the end of our time, she set up a face to face interview with their Hiring Manager.
The next interview was a face to face with the hiring manager. I felt immediate hostility. It was not personable at all. I have conducted both interviews and been interviewed. Just from the initial demeanor, I knew I was in for a rough interview. We went over, my resume, line item by line item. Well, I've been in Austin, 20 years, worked for big corporations, small start ups, and even ran my own business for a while, as a consultant. I was . asked nothing about my experience within the oil and gas industry. I was never asked about sales techniques, what my process was towards cold calling, prospecting, closing sales, up selling. It was all about why I left the jobs.
