I applied online through Craigslist with my resume. A day later I get an email asking me to come in later that week. There was no one at the desk for 15 minutes when I arrived. Once I was finally helped and the guy I was meeting with came out he brought me downstairs (Dirty and broken chairs). He sat me in a room and told me I'd be meeting with one of the managers. I waited 10 minutes to be seen. He finally came in and looked over my resume. He asked me the standard questions of why I want to work here and what programs I'm familiar with (Excel, MS Word, etc.) He also asked how fast I could type (wpm). The whole time he was was texting on his phone, looking up every now and then.
Then he said he'll be back and left me in the room for another 5 minutes. When he came back he directed me to another room where an older man was sitting, he was the head of the department.
The older man looks over my resume and was like, "So you've been in school this whole time?" I answer yes. He asked if I have any work experience (I guess he can't read because it shows my work experience on my resume.) I said yes I do. He said, "Don't lie to me." Ummm excuse me? First of all why do you assume I'm lying? I just graduated with my masters and you think I have no work experience? Most people have jobs at least in grad school. Idiot.
So he continues on asking me about my experience and what I did in school. Then the other guy comes in and the older guy is like, "I don't know what we can do with her, she has no experience in data entry."
In my head I'm thinking, this is an entry level data entry position. If you wanted someone with experience, you should've at least put that on the job listing. Second I have a masters in Health Informatics. The only reason I even applied to the job is because I just moved to NYC so I was thinking it would be a quick in and fast way to make some money before I find something more permanent.
The other guy had responded, "Oh I was thinking she could be on the phones. She's very well spoken." And the older guy is like, "Do you want to work on the phones, scheduling patients?" I said no, that's not why I came here. And I didn't appreciate this other guy volunteering to put me in a role I didn't apply for.
So the guy responded. "Okay we'll be in touch."
I wish I had told them off right there. Because it was so unprofessional. Not only am I way overqualified, but I also feel this older guy took one look at me and decided "No, I don't want her." Because it's an ENTRY LEVEL, DATA ENTRY ROLE! I'm sorry but most data entry roles don't expect you to have all sorts of experience.
It was the WORST interview experience I ever had. And the fact that it took 15 minutes for anyone to arrive to the front desk of a dental practice should've been the first indication of how unprofessional this place it. I mean look at their reviews, that should say enough.
