I got referred by an ex colleague of mine to apply for a media planner position with Mediacom UK. Handed in my CV and had a nice phone call a few days after. Followed by a task and presentation. The presentation was held at their offices in a very small and awkward room which was clearly not a meeting room for presentations so this was the first red flag. Do they not prepare for the candidate as much as the candidate prepares for them?
The presentation went well and in general they did ask quite a lot and you had to provide a lot of free consultation which was the next red flag as they were fishing for free advise.
The two interview ladies were nice but the third guy was horrible to me throughout the whole interview. Asked me a lot of none related questions, got impatient when I asked for clarity and eyerolled a few times at me when I got along with the other two ladies. Very unprofessional but I kept positive and upbeat which annoyed him even more.
I was invited back for a third round. Got to the office a bit early and waited at the foyer. Guy from the interview must have been on lunch cause he randomly turned up so I smiled and reached out to shake hands and say hello. He looked in total disgust at me and said “no thanks. I’ve just washed my hands”. That was the point I no longer wanted to work at Mediacom as people/managers with such rude behaviour are highly toxic and no one has time for petty drama and office politics.
Out of courtesy I smiled and luckily shortly after got picked up by my interviewer who was nice but asked me completely different questions and not related to the position at all. I’ve done all sorts of digital and PR in the past couple of years so he asked me lots about PR and events rather than tech stuff/SEO because that’s what most Media Planner do at Mediacom.
I received an offer but had a counteroffer with better conditions and also didn’t enjoy the lame atmosphere and hostile vibes at Mediacom.
