They found my resume online and contacted me. I researched them here and, as others have said, realized it was simply a call center position. I wasn't very interested in the position or the industry. However, the pay wasn't bad so I decided to consider it. Unlike others, they contacted me by email, which I appreciated. We then set a time for a phone conversation the following week.
On the phone, the questions were pretty basic. Just asking about my resume and work history. I thought I was fairly articulate and professional. However, I did make one mistake. Since I'm transitioning from an education background, they asked what kind of work I preferred in the business setting. Of course, the best answer for this company would have been, "customer service" or some such answer. I made the mistake of being ambitious - I said, quite honestly, that I thought management was a good fit based on my experience as an educational coordinator / director, and that I was interested in pursuing an MBA.
That was pretty much the end of our conversation. I got an email by the end of the week saying "no thanks". Pretty sure it was just that I wasn't customer-focused and clearly didn't really want to settle for a 9-5 with no advancement opportunities.
Also, the way he explained the job, it was pretty clear what it was. He said that in 5 years, I'd basically do 3 things.... and they were all customer service. Definitely no room for advancement or other opportunities.
