Phonecall with Martyn, followed by an in-person meeting. Basic behavioural questions. I had previous successful recruitment sales experience which made it a no-brainer for Martyn to hire me. It turned into a sales pitch versus an interview where Martyn hard-sold me on the role. Unfortunately he was blowing smoke and totally misrepresented himself, his firm and the team. One week into the job and he turned into a totally different person. Morale was incredibly low. He would yell and shout at the team and seemed emotionally unhinged at times. Contrary to how he markets the firm online, they are not a leading firm, not even close. Very small book of business with very few repeat customers. Actively stacks the deck against team members to avoid paying commissions by allocating candidates to his sole long standing team member. She basically owns the entire candidate database, if she spoke to someone for 5 minutes, 5 years ago, she basically owns the candidate. On several occasions candidate ownership was invoked to avoid paying commissions to other team member. Nothing about this was reasonable, it was completely outrageous. His long standing team member also happens to be an extremely conservative, right wing christian, and once she learned I was gay, she stopped talking to me and seized every opportunity to give me stink eye. It turned into a horrible nightmare, with employees solely motivated by fear. A far cry from the picture that was painted to me in the interview. I have since moved on and are a top biller in my firm. Avoid this firm at all cost.
