I had interviewed for a senior engineer position on the Browser team. My interview experience started off great. The initial conversation with the recruiter was good. I then had an excellent conversation with the hiring manager who demonstrated passion for the company and successfully sold me on the role. Following this, I had a first round technical interview with a senior engineer on the team. This is unfortunately where the story goes downhill.
My technical interviewer showed up 20 minutes late to the interview. While waiting for the interviewer to arrive, I reached out to both the schedule coordinator and the interviewer but got no response from any of them.
Other than this lateness, the interview went really well. I was asked some basic C++ questions and was given a medium difficulty (as per leetcode) dynamic programming question to solve, which I finished in about 20-25 minutes. After the technical evaluation, I had a wonderful chat with the interviewer and learned a lot about the day-to-day parts of the job. We went well overtime. I left the interview feeling like I had done a great job and happy to hear more about the job.
Two days later, the recruiter told me that based on my technical interview unfortunately they had decided to move on with other candidates, giving the vague reason that my experience did not meet all of the requirements for the position. What was most disappointing to me however was that the recruiter invited me to write back if I had any questions or concerns about their decision to reject my application, and so I took up the offer. However I got no response. This is disappointing and reflects poorly on the company.
