      Marketing Director Interview

      18 Jan 2022
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 6 months. I interviewed at MCR Labs in Apr 2021

      Interview

The process started in April 2021 and ended in November 2021. While it pains me to write this review as everyone I spoke with was really sweet, they completely dropped the ball on this process. I did round after round of interviews, completed a project, shared a 30-60-90 plan, and spoke to the entire leadership team, some on numerous occasions. Additionally, I had interviewed for a Marketing Manager role a year earlier but it was decided the role was too junior for me and they made an internal hire. I even did some contract work between interviewing for these roles so needless to say, this company knows me well, how I think, and how I work. The process for the MD role was really long as you'd expect with a leadership role but the communication was horrendous. Still, the opportunity seemed worth it as the lab is growing quickly and it's been my goal to work in cannabis. As August came around, I was asked to do a few more interviews with the expectation the process would be done and a decision made at the end of the month. By September, they still had not made a decision and I started to worry because my wife and I were set to have our first child arrive at the end of the month and I had planned to take some leave to spend with our baby. I didn't want to create a bad situation where I couldn't take leave because I was switching jobs or I was taking leave with an offer and then leaving my old company hanging after my leave. Needless to say, the communication continued to be very subpar. The company added a new HR person to handle the process and he acted as if he knew nothing about me. Additionally, the questions I asked him, he rarely had answers to. By mid-October, I was on leave and received a call from said HR person that he expected to have news for me the following week and he'd like to call me Wednesday. Fine. Wednesday comes and goes and I hear nothing. I send him an email and he immediately calls me to tell me that he had expected to deliver my offer on Wednesday but there was an internal issue and the company needed to delay the offer for 2 weeks. Those two weeks went by and I heard nothing. So, once again I reached out and once again was immediately called. This time I was told the job was indefinitely put on hold and he had no updates as he was not privy to that information...? Umm OK? He mentioned that things may change in a month. A few days later I received a gift basket for a newborn from the company... which was also confusing. I also had time to meet once again with the hiring manager who really wouldn't give me any other information about the reason for postponing the job other than "internal issues and miscommunications". Regardless, this was a terrible experience and a waste of my time with which I was left empty-handed. The company is growing rapidly and is still a great opportunity to work for but I recommend you ask them to clearly define and set the timeline for the role.
