      Software Engineer Interview

      31 Jul 2025
      Anonymous employee
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Lightspeed in Jun 2025

      Interview

I went through a thorough interview process that included a first interview with the recruiter, followed by a code review of an assessment completed offline, a technical questions session, and a final meeting with the directors. All interviews were conducted online, and the process concluded with a phone call providing a final update and an overview of the team I will be joining. During that call, I truly felt the excitement about this new team that is getting built and appreciated his openness to receiving any questions I had and feedback about the selection process. Throughout the entire process, the recruiter was supportive and communicative, providing clear updates and valuable feedback after every step. His genuine care made me feel confident and valued, reinforcing my positive impression of the company’s culture. The interview process lasted about five weeks from my first contact. While it was a bit long, I found it valuable to get to know the team and company culture. Sometimes you jump into something excited without a real opportunity to meet the people. At the end of the day, you’re spending most of your time at work, so it’s important who you’re sharing it with. I met six different people across the company and was able to ask each of them questions to gain their perspectives on what it’s like to work there, which gave me a great sense of confidence about my decision to join. I appreciated that, during the technical rounds, I had the opportunity to be interviewed by both women and men, which made the experience more inclusive. Overall, it was a positive, respectful, and inviting process that left me eager to start this new chapter with the company!

      Interview

The process starts with an initial HR screening call followed by an interview with the hiring manager. The hiring manager was late and seemed completely unprepared. He asked almost nothing about my resume or my iOS experience, so I had very little chance to showcase what I actually do. Much of the interview focused on repetitive situational questions. He kept rewording the same question over and over, even though I had already answered it. Clearly, he did not have enough material to fill the full hour. After about 30 minutes into the 1-hour interview, he just opened it up for me to ask questions. The impression I got was that iOS development is clearly an afterthought at this company. That aligns with the low reviews and ratings across their apps. I have done a lot of interviews, and this is the first time I actually felt frustrated enough to write a review.
