      Engineering Manager Interview

      28 Jul 2022
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Kitchener, ON
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a staffing agency. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at League (Kitchener, ON) in Jun 2022

      Interview

A third-party recruiter reached out and put me forward to League, bypassing the initial HR interview. The first interview was with a hiring manager, which seemed to go quite well. After this interview, I was moved onto a technical interview (architecture) where they gave a problem up front, and had you prepare a solution ahead of time. I really appreciated this approach as it allowed me to think about a good solution ahead of time, and ultimately led to a great discussion with a their developers. The next step was with another engineering manager and a product manager. Standard behavioural questions. At this point, I was left in limbo for about two weeks. I was in contact with the third-party recruiter during this time and he indicated that the delay was due to vacations, and push back on salary. After those two weeks, I was contacted again to speak to another hiring manager for a different team. I wasn’t explicitly told this initially, but found out after the fact that the initial role had been filled and I was being looked at for another team. After this interview, I was brought back to speak to the team’s designer and product manager. The conversation went really well. The next day was the final interview with the group’s director and VP. Unfortunately, the VP was doubled booked and couldn’t attend. The next day, I was rejected. The process left me with a sour taste in my mouth for a number of reasons: - The process took almost two months to go through, with 6 (or 7 if you include the chat with the third-party recruiter) different interviews. I had to take days off work and spend multiple hours of time preparing for this battery of interviews. - I was asked the same questions in multiple interviews. It felt like the process could have been condensed, and that interview notes weren’t being shared between interviewers. - The reason for rejection was essentially due to a lack of some specific experience. This information would have been apparent after the 3rd interview, so the following interviews turned out to not be necessary. I believe that League is working on some interesting things, and seems like a good company overall, but I was left disappointed with the candidate experience, and felt that my time wasn’t respected.

      Engineering Manager Interview

      Anonymous interview candidate
      Ottawa, ON
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at League (Ottawa, ON) in Jan 2022

      Interview

Straightforward process but found the interviewers to be a bit rude. Did not look into the design document I was asked to create and submit "24 hours" prior to the interview. The senior manager during another interview felt lacking any enthusiasm. But the worst was the fact that they don't even bother to respond or give you any feedback after the process. Expect no response if you haven't cleared the process.
