      Interview

Had a screening interview and was given a test. Was told it can take a while to progress but I'd definitely hear back. I was then ghosted. The recruiter wouldn't even send a form rejection. Quite something to then hear they are still requesting tests from people and headhunting!...if you don't have time to review them, why ask for more? I can understand that you get a lot of applicants, but why don't you screen us more? Or ask for more specific portfolio pieces? The unpaid test is quite long, and it was really frustrating not to even get a rejection. I have no idea if my work wasn't a good fit, or if no one read it. So it feels like a terrible use of my time, and any staff at Larian involved in the process. I understand the desire to be selective, but asking for custom work for everyone is a poor use of time all around.

      Interview

Even before an initial interview, they provide a writing test that you complete in Twine. Imagine creating a mini quest/dialogue experience for a Baldur's Gate 3 or Divinity: Original Sin game. They provide 2-3 prompts and you make a branching narrative with 2-3 major choices. Very clear instructions and they lay out exactly what they're looking for. Found it to be the most clear and well documented test I've taken for a video game writing or narrative design position. They also provide tips and tricks on how to best approach the writing based on common issues they've seen from submissions in the past. I found that extremely helpful and refreshing. They want you to succeed and aren't trying to trick you. In the end, I wasn't even offered an video chat/voice interview, but they were overall friendly and though they took a while to get back to me, they provided feedback on what I wrote that I had to agree with and understand why I wasn't put forward for the next stage. It's difficult since they're riding off the success of BG3, but it was a bit off-putting to not once speak to a recruiter, apart from emailing back and forth. Feels like they hand out the test to almost anyone, which I get, but feels just like a lot of free work. My main suggestion would be to have people complete a smaller test. They say the test should only take you 4-6 hours, but there's no way that's true. Checked with other writers and they confirmed they spent days and days on it too.
