      Software Developer Interview

      12 Feb 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      London, England
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through a staffing agency. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Landbay (London, England) in Jan 2019

      Interview

I was contacted by a recruiter for this role. The company was interested and contacted me for a telephone interview. They asked questions mostly about the company. They like their employees to know as much as possible about the company, so it felt more like a quiz on Landbay. To be honest, I was answering "I don't know," or, "I'm not sure" to half of the questions. Surprisingly, they still took me through to the next stage. I don't know why. The next stage was a take-home coding test. I had to create a programme that matches investments to loan requests and return fully-funded investments. For my level of skill, I found it a little difficult, however I got through, again. The final stage was a F2F interview at their office. Really nice place, everyone was so friendly, smiles all round when I was walking through the small office. I felt very welcomed. The interview was around 1-2hrs, consisted of general interview questions, as well as some technical questions, and a whiteboard coding question. They also ask you questions about your code (what you can improve) and any problems it may have had. Overall, it was a good experience. Little difficult for my level, however the company itself is great, the people are warm and friendly and welcoming, and it seems like a really great place to work.

      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Landbay (London, England) in Mar 2019

      Interview

I prepared for an interview call which was through the agent. Had to learn so many things regarding their company what they do and about their peer to peer lending strategy and about their competitors as the agent advised that many people got rejected because they didn’t know much about the company. It feels like Landbay has billions of revenue and they would like any future candidate to know everything about them. The phone call was with HR and asked about the company’s history, awards, peer to peer strategy etc. Second part was with someone who mentioned is number 13 in the company in terms of hierarchy. It was all about java questions what docker is and asked me to describe microservices. I did explain what docker is and what’s microservices in detail. His last question was what is Hasmap and I went through explaining what is it and all the Following are few key points to note about HashMaps in Java - A HashMap cannot contain duplicate keys. Java HashMap allows null values and the null key. HashMap is an unordered collection. It does not guarantee any specific order of the elements. Java HashMap is not thread-safe. You must explicitly synchronize concurrent modifications to the HashMap. However feedback was bad mentioning that I misunderstood the question for Hasmaps. I analysed docker and microservices fine. I am not sure why he didn’t make clear the question about hashmaps. Such a waste of time talking and learning about them. Really unexpected the outcome. I thought at lease they are going to send me their test.
