After you apply, they (Kroger Corp.) call first, then set up a day/time to interview in person at the location, then they tell the manager at that store when to expect you. The person that calls you is not the person that you actually interview with in person.

you apply, and then they email you about scheduling for an interview for me it was like a day or two after i had sent in the application and then they schedule an interview like 2 days after you apply and you go
Applied on the companies website for a cashier position. Later a phone call interview with an associate working at the location where information and responsibility was shared. Position offer was emailed along with start date.
