Call with recruiter initially which explained tech stack and what the role would involve. Then a technical test of easy difficulty. Had to write in pseudocode how to reverse a list
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Kainos in Apr 2023
Interview
1. Phone screen. Asking basics about background. 2. Video interview with 1 hiring manager. Semi technical questions. 3. Video interview with a hiring manager and a technical architect. Presentation of a system you've designed and lead essentially.
Feedback was given for second interview, but no specific feedback was given for third interview. The process itself though was relatively fast as would hear back either the next day or the day after after each interview.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
During the second interview I got questions about what cloud services I have used. What are non functional requirements, how would I test applications and a lot of questions in that nature. So this part I would classify as semi technical and seeing what your background knowledge is but not digging very deep. The third interview was demonstrating a system you've designed before and the leadership in that. This covered some technical aspects like why did you design the system in this specific way, like the stack itself and it's benefits. Any potential internal problems you've had with a team you've worked with and how mitigated that. How do plan out a project. What would excessive commenting potentially mean. Overall this interview was more on the leadership side, but had some technical depth.
I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Kainos (Belfast, Northern Ireland) in Feb 2023
Interview
30min Screening interview followed by 90min whiteboarding interview along with a few more technical questions. Unforunately I was declined from the position. Despite having demonstrated all the required criteria, and much of the desirable criteria, I was rejected based on a lack of cloud experience. This was despite myself and the recruiter being clear and open from the start that I had no experience and was looking for a job to gain experience and contribute, and Kainos having assured us both throughout the interview process that this wouldn't be an issue. When it came to feedback from the final interview, the lack of cloud experience was the only negative item that was given, and was the sole reason provided for rejection. If the cloud experience was a make or break factor, it should have been listed as essential criteria, not at the bottom of desirable criteria, and myself and my recruiter shouldn't have been lead on through the entire process.
