Unfortunately the interview process was very poor. I had a 60 minute telephone interview arranged with one of their HR managers, for which they were 45 minutes late (I had to call and email to chase them up). I was on my lunch hour so was only able to speak for 15 minutes. I was thankful that I still got to second stage which was a face to face interview with one of the hiring managers whom was a senior director (the other manager was on holiday). This interview, I felt, couldn't have gone better. I was in the room for exactly the full hour, had great rapport with the director and was able to answer every question and tick all the boxes for what they were looking for. He said that I had an incredibly impressive CV and background and also had a little bit of "banter" during the interview too. I was told that I would hear early the following week if I was to be invited back for a third and final interview - they actually called me next day to invite me back. Great! Very happy and excited. The final interview was with the first hiring manager and the second who was now back from holiday. Sadly the third interview wasn't as I was expected. First of all I was ill with a very bad head cold, however I didn't let it put me off and still answered all of their questions and, again, seemed to tick all boxes. The interview was going well until I asked what their company policy was for family emergencies as I have a young daughter at home under the age of two. I asked if working from home, on the very RARE occasion (emphasising the rarity of it) that if an emergency would happen, would be it allowed. The interview became very frosty at this point and I was bluntly told that home working was not permitted for office support staff. I made it clear that I never intended to work from home (in fact I can't stand working from home) but that these things do happen with working parents so what would they do in that situation. I was told that they would need to speak to their HR department and get back to me. The interview was quickly ended at this point, although I was told that they would be making a decision within 48 hours so I would hear very quickly.
I am disappointed to say that my final interview was 3 to 4 weeks ago and I am still waiting to be told if I have been "successful" or not. Reading between the lines I clearly have not been successful, however despite chasing their HR department and asking for feedback they have not made any attempt to contact me, despite replying to one of my emails to say that they would call me later that day (this was from the same HR person whom was 45 minutes late for my telephone interview).
I have since found employment elsewhere and as excited as I initially was about the opportunity, I feel that I may have dodged a bullet. It is very clear that working mums are not supported in the workplace, for 2017 I find this appalling. I have fantastic full time childcare arrangements which I pay a lot of money for, but sometimes children get ill. Certainly not a company I wish to work for with this attitude.
