Application
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Jefferies (New York, NY) in Dec 2015
Interview
One hour, three interview super day entirely consisting of fit and behavioral interview questions. Brought tons of my equity research articles and models, but they didn't seem very interested in any of it. Phone screen was much more intensive and detailed.

Question 1
Explain a few major differences between buy-side and sell-side equity research?
Absolutely disengaged interviewer! more interested in his/her phone than me - utterly unprofessional. Him/her was huffing and puffing during the interview, it was like he was was dragged out of bed against his own will!
I did the first 2 rounds through phone call with the VP and associate. Then got invited to an in person interview with 3 team members (Analyst, VP, Associate). Nearly all were behavioral questions.
The interview for equity research consists of a behavioral and technical portion. Expect a "Why Jefferies" question along with basic technicals. They want to see your passion and why you are interested in working at the firm.
