I applied online. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at JCPenney (Sacramento, CA) in Jun 2013
Interview
I applied online and received a phone call a few days later. There was an initial phone interview.
Then there was a second group interview that involved building a structure out of multi-colored blocks as a group. One person would be the leader for a small amount of time, which means they'd get 15-30 seconds to look at the example picture and direct (without touching the blocks), and it would cycle through all the interviewees. The second part of the interview consisted of each person being assigned a department, given four ideas that JC Penney was considering adding to stores, and then having to make a presentation to convince everyone else that they should go with their ideas.
After that, we were spoken to individually. During this time, if we preformed well, we were given job offers.

Question 1
The whole experience was pretty fun, but all of it was tough. There were no questions.
I applied in-person. I interviewed at JCPenney (Tempe, AZ)
Interview
It was in a very professional and comfortable setting in the store. And it was conducted with the store and salon manager at that location. Both of the managers were kind and professional.
It was a group interview which led to an individual interview with a supervisor. If you pass the first round you have a higher chance of getting hired on for a position
Interview process went smoothly. Asked behavioral questions and situational questions that catered to how you deal with a variety of customer personalities. Also asked about previous employment roles. Offered a job on the first interview.
