I was very unhappy and unsettled by the interview process. My interview was scheduled for 11:00 AM, but the owner of the school, Michael, didn’t show up until 11:30. I ended up interviewing with two women and the owner. I believe one of the women was the Head of School. From the start, the atmosphere felt cold and tense, though the questions were fairly standard at first.
Things quickly took a turn when the owner looked at me and, in a snarky tone, asked, “What’s with the hair?” (I had recently dyed it). I work for a large, reputable company and have never had any issues with my appearance being considered unprofessional. Yet, he proceeded to lecture me about what it means to be professional in a condescending manner, implying I must have problems at my current job. Then, to top it off, he asked me how old I was—completely inappropriate and unprofessional.
I was honestly shocked and disgusted. I stuck it out, but by the end, I knew that if this person had any role in managing the school, it was not a place I wanted to be. Despite being invited for a second interview, I declined. The entire experience left me feeling uncomfortable and disrespected.
