It was a good experience. There were two rounds of interviews. HR related and technical questions. The second interview involved a research task in which they asked you prior to the interview to conduct some research on a legal matter and prepare a presentation of your finding during the interview.
Had a phone call with a recruiter where we talked about my notice, salary expectations, and what the role would entail. Was able to learn more about the role, the team and the firm as a whole.
I applied online. The process took 4 months. I interviewed at Irwin Mitchell in Jan 2026
Interview
I was contacted shortly after my application for a telephone call with a talent acquisition person in the team whereby we talked about notice, salary etc. An interview was booked for 4 weeks later. The interview was 45 minutes long with the Partner and a Solicitor - very forward interview and curious about my experience (having been a paralegal for 3 years). Having had 3 interviews prior with different law firms, this was the strangest as wasn't a general conversation about why I would be best fitted for the role etc, was random Q's with no structure. They didn't really know about their team and I appreciate they are busy but they were not interested at all. This threw me off and didn't really do well in the interview. This has been a dream firm for some time but after the interview I felt confused!! 6 weeks later, I was rejected (not by surprise). By this time I had already organised a new job - could not believe how long it took for them to tell me I was rejected haha!
