The interview process was unexpectedly long and challenging. After applying online and scheduling an interview via email, I went for an in-person interview for about 4 hours. Normally an interview of this duration would have a hiring manager share an itinerary before hand. Upon arriving I immediately filled out a lot of paperwork. I briefly met with three staff individually (no more then 45 min or so total), then met with the owner. I was surprised that he spent about 3-3 1/2 hours with me. It was great meeting everyone, they were all friendly, seemed hardworking and to truly enjoy working at the gallery. The owner is very passionate about art and his business. I did however get the impression that the owner has time and priority management issues. The staff seemed to be dealing with a lot of chaos, but handled it well. I got the impression benefits are minimum (no commission) and it was mentioned in passing the gallery is open most holidays, including major. I think this gallery is a good short-term opportunity for students or someone trying to get their foot in the door for this industry.
