I applied online. The process took 6 months. I interviewed at IO Interactive A / S (Brighton, England) in Sept 2024
Interview
This was, without question, one of the most frustrating and poorly managed interview processes I’ve ever experienced. It left such a negative impression that I cannot imagine applying to IOI again.
I applied online and received no response for three months. My follow-ups went unanswered until I finally received an email requesting a writing test—something I have a feeling was being sent to all applicants. Despite the significant delay, I attempted to clarify the process by requesting a brief pre-screen interview to avoid wasting time for either party. This reasonable request was denied, with the recruiter insisting the test be completed within a week.
The writing test itself was relatively straightforward: two scenes of two pages each. However, I was genuinely excited about the role and committed considerable effort—roughly 30-40 hours—revising, seeking feedback, and refining the sample to ensure it showcased my abilities.
What followed was more waiting. Despite their tight turnaround request for the test, it took weeks of repeated follow-ups over several months before I finally received a rejection email. The feedback provided was a single, vague sentence that could have applied to any candidate.
Hoping to gain more constructive insights after investing so much time, I replied politely to request detailed feedback. After several more weeks and multiple follow-ups, I was informed that no additional feedback would be given due to the "busy schedules" of senior staff.
While I understand that not every applicant can be selected, the lack of communication, transparency, and respect for candidates' time was glaring. Candidates also have busy schedules, yet I made the time to engage fully with their process and put my best effort forward. The company, in turn, failed to extend the same courtesy. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend applying here and certainly won’t be doing so myself again.
