Applied through online job search engine. Received an email a few days later and scheduled an interview. To my surprise, my chemistry knowledge was never tested prior to being hired. I was basically hired on the spot. The lab director attended the same university from which I had graduated and knew some of my professors. These connections likely helped me out a great deal.
