I applied in-person. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Howard Hughes Medical Institute (New York, NY) in Aug 2010
Interview
I interviewed with the lab and found their research fascinating. I presented my prior research and discussed with members of the lab. The HHMI principal investigator discussed my prior work, but we focused far more on what my plans would be if I joined the lab. I had interviewed at a couple other places and knew that I was interested in this one. My background didn't fit perfectly, but the PI saw an opportunity to gain expertise in a field that may help the lab.
