      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at HoustonPBS

      Interview

If they want to interview you for other positions different from what you originally interviewed for..RUN. Started off with a quick phone call to see if I was interested in the position. Then went in for an in person interview (panel of 3.) They were quick to respond to my thank you email and within a few days told me I was in the top 3 for the dev associate position. They offered an interview for the Events & Comm specialist position that I didn’t apply for. I took the offer for the interview and within that interview I was asked if I would be interested in applying for the donor relations manager position. It became clear that the team was unorganized and indecisive in what they were looking for It was frustrating on my end that it was pretty much playing tag and being passed around for interviews. I made it clear what position I was interested in. They never got back to me in the time frame they said the would. Waited another week, sent 2 follow up emails and crickets. Was 50/50 about the department because of values, but because they took up 3 weeks of my time I would’ve appreciated the courtesy of letting me know if I got it or not. I’m finding it to be disrespectful and organizations forgetting that they are not just interviewing people for the their team, people are also interviewing them to see if they’re a good fit for themselves. I felt like questions started getting personal and negative such as what my pet peeves are. My advice to future interviewers Is to have courtesy to let your candidates know where you’re in the process.

      Application

I interviewed at HoustonPBS (Houston, TX)

      Interview

Received a phone call 30 mins. after I applied online and was given an ad- hoc phone screen from the hiring manager, with no time to prepare, but I did well anyway. She asked me to come in the next day for a panel interview. In person they were arrogant and barely let me complete my answer before interrupting with an accusatory tone" Why didn't you try to raise even more money? The position posted described more of a prospect researcher than development Manager soliciting donations which was apparently what they were seeking. It was clear I wasn't going to get an offer but they didn't have the courtesy to even follow up to let me know. It felt more like The Shark Tank than a non-profit. Avoid the Development department and this position.
