I applied online. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Hostelling International (Washington, DC) in Jun 2015
Interview
Weird, crazy process. The general manager does a drawn out series of scenarios and random questions to try to catch you off guard and see how you react under pressure. Nothing too difficult to get through, but quite the production for a job that mainly involves working the register and giving directions to tourists.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
How would you react to someone being drunk and rowdy in the hostel? And then what would you do? And then? And then?
I applied in-person. I interviewed at Hostelling International
Interview

You need to be friendly and smile, otherwise you have no chance...

Interview
Met the supervisor, had the interview in the cafe. It was extremely casual, he had a list of generic interview questions and scenario based questions. They want to know how you prioritize work.
