I got ghosted after the technical round of interviews. I couldn't reach anyone I got in contact with during the process and that seemed very unprofessional towards any candidate. I wouldn't consider applying there anytime soon in the future.
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Hopper (Montreal, QC) in Jul 2021
Interview
Hopper got my resume through a contact I had, thinking I could fit the position.
first interview with a recruiter person who spent more time talking about the company than my background, yawning all the time at 10:00 AM.
He emailed me back for the next interview. The only info I had was "Make sure to use a computer as you’ll be required to screen-share during the coding segment."
Two day later I had the technical interview with a co-founder-head of core-platform and a Sr. SRE.
The co-founder said he was busy and will only be listening and closed his camera - never heard of him since.
The SRE was in the position for 3 months.
The interview was mainly 2 questions:
- how would you design a web scraper from ground
- a coding test on coderpad with a spoken description of the exercise. So badly explained I had to rephrase twice to ensure I got it right.
Beside that, I that, I thought I did OK...
4 Days later I had a one sentence email saying it was over.
I'm a 25 year experienced admin/sre/devops, k8s and Service mesh expert, and they had my resume for this kind of position.
They never asked me any question around that expertise.
Sometimes I feel some companies are hiring just for the sake of showing they exist. I just lost my time there.
Stop asking for SRE if you want developers or software architects.
provided two ranges like {1-3},{2-7}, answer :
- the total range if they overlap
- the two ranges in order if they don't
Note: I had to ask 3 times to finally get to the way I just explained it.
