      Sales Leadership Development Program Interview

      15 Jun 2023
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Manchester, England
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Hilti Group (Manchester, England) in Jun 2023

      Interview

I applied for this role as it states that is aimed towards MBA candidates. I got through the initial interview (virtual interview where you record the answers to questions). Didn't hear anything for a week, so followed up and was called almost immediately. The recruiter wanted to know a bit more about me, questioned why I decided to go to university a bit later, and wanted to know my salary expectations. I expressed that salary isn't everything, but I'm sure as this is an MBA the compensation would be in line with that. When I was told the salary, this was below what a typical MBA salary would be, and the recruiter even admitted that a local business school had expressed the same view. I thanked them and said I would think about it and get back. As I realised the position was also equivalent to many years experience I had, and that there was a more senior MBA development programme, I decided to ask to be considered for that one instead. I was told that it was designed for people with 10+ years post-MBA experience (even though this was not mentioned anywhere in the job description). I enquired about a 'sign on bonus' and was told they stopped doing that, and anyway 'can find people who don't have that requirement'. The recruiter was also quite unprofessional, expressing frustration about the lack of diversity / female leaders, yet also explained how the leadership would question why she was considering a candidate 'not from a top tier university' (I will not mention the actual university in discussion). I felt quite belittled, and when enquiring about the other position, I was also told that I am 'not an engineer anyway' nor do I have 'industry experience'. I haven't done an MBA to return to a similar level role that I did for 6 years. I felt I had a very good relationship with the recruiter, until I expressed my dissatisfaction for the role once I understood more about what it entailed, then they because quite rude. If you want to increase diversity in a company, explain why you think this person would be a good fit, be open to try and negotiate. I didn't complete the recruitment process, as I withdrew from the application.
