I applied online. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at H&M (Windsor, South East England, England) in Aug 2012
Interview
I applied online for a vacancy through the H&M careers portal. If your application is successful you'll get a call asking for you to come into the store for an interview during store hours. While I wore a suit, a shirt and smart trousers would probably suffice. Interviews are done in two stages: first is a one on one interview, and the second is a group interview/induction, where you go through all the relevant safety procedures along with a store video. Following the group induction, you are sent onto the staff floor immediately to start, where your performance is also judged (mainly as a "can they actually put clothes away and tidy" criteria).
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
(Presenting a rack of clothes) Choose one item of clothing off this rack, and sell it to us.
group interview, people were friendly and they asked a lot of general questions. then we all went to the shop floor, got assigned a certain outfit to make for a hypothetical customer and explained in front of the group why we chose it
I applied online, interview at the store. Casual talk with the store manager about the experiences and how the store works. It was pretty straight forward even without any experiences.
Group interview. 10 candidates in a small dingy room. Poorly organised and interviewers showed very little interest or skill in conducting an effective interview. Were in pairs for the whole thing, no way to stand out and other people taking credit for your ideas. No observation of how you handled planning and answering the tasks in your pairs, interviewers just sat there having a chat.
