I couldn't believe how strange this process was. This GTL interview was the rudest and the most disgraceful handling of any interview I've had in decades!
First, the HR person called and told me that I'm being considered for the position, but that it was being downgraded to from "Senior Graphic Designer" to "Graphic Designer." Was I still interested. Yes, I was. She asked a lot of questions, and then said she'd call me back by the next day. She finally called back about 5 days later, but ok. I was scheduled for an interview was sent an itinerary of meeting 4 people total: HR, the Marketing Manager, then this manager's boss, and then HR again.
In the meantime, you are required to take an online "Predictive Index" test (search online and you'll see the description) before the interview. One of the first questions this test asks is "how old are you?" Ok. Now - I'm not brand-new out of the box, but I'm also not boarding the one-way flight into the sky, either. I happen to be an award-winning designer and photographer, with all the bells and whistles attached, and was willing to discuss the down-graded salary they imposed after posting this as a senior position and then changing their minds.
Finally - the interview. The drove the 50 minutes from the city to get there. I knew that in the next 2 months I would be moving on 20 minutes from this facility, so I figured it was worth the drive to see if this was a good match.
The first of 4 interviews was with the HR lady. She was nice - though she herself was brand new and looked nervous. I passed this interview. So she brought in the 2nd of 4 interviews - the would-be boss lady. We talked and smiled and had what I thought was an excellent interview. She had a standard list of questions she was reading from, and so we want along. She asked, and I answered. I thought it went super!
Then, we smiled again and shook hands, and she said that her boss would be in shortly. He was on the itinerary as the 3rd interview. So I waited. And waited. And... finally, the first HR person came in and said that my last two interviews had to be rescheduled because they were both called into meetings. That there was so much going on that they didn't for-see this happening. That she would call me tomorrow to reschedule.
I was quickly ushered out, and the door couldn't close behind me fast enough.
Even my 10-year-old couldn't believe that the last 2 interview-ers of a management team wouldn't at least make an "appearance" so that I didn't feel that I was wasting my time. Yuck!
