      Director of Ecommerce Interview

      21 Aug 2024
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Grunt Style in May 2024

      Interview

Disappointing and waste of my time and money. I wasn't even looking for new opportunities but when a recruiter reached out to me, and I saw the brand name I decided to interview as I love the brand and what they represent. I had an interview with the recruiter, then with Grunt Style's hiring manager and HR, followed by an interview with their CFO. They decided to move with me as one of the final candidates, and I was invited for a day of in-person interviews with several people at their corporate office in San Antonio including the CEO. All my interviews went well and they were also super excited about the results I got on the personality test ,and how it's a perfect fit for their team and organization. The next day I followed up with the recruiter who told me he got very positive feedback and that I will probably need to wait couple of days as they want to schedule another interview with the CEO, but we can maybe start negotiate an offer in the meantime. I followed a week later as no one contacted me to schedule another interview and there were no discussions about any offer details. The recruiter replied that because of memorial day sale and traveling they didn't have a chance to regroup yet and make a final decision, but I'm one of the two finalists. After couple of days I asked how I can make myself the leading candidate and the recruiter offered for me to create a strategic vision on what I would do in my first couple of months, which I did (I'm not a big fan of free work but here I was fighting for a brand I believed in). A week later I got a recognition that they received the email, and they are still working on this role but they haven't made a decision yet because of busy travel schedule. This is kind of where I decided I'm not interested anymore in this role, as if this is the way they treat candidates, I don't want to imagine how is it once they lure you in, but I decided to see where this ends anyway. I contacted the recruiter after additional two weeks (this is more then a month after my final interview just to be clear) and I heard some more excuses but the most interesting part was that they allegedly decided to pause the search for a Director and leveling up to a VP or SVP role. I found that interesting because the 6 people I interview with all told me how much they are missing middle management in the organization. I also saw them simultaneously post on LinkedIn for lower title eCom roles. This was a waste of my time and money, but I'm happy I dodged a bullet and saw all the red flags before I joined what could have potentially be a toxic work environment. All the people that interviewed me were extremely nice, however their lack of ability to make decisions, complete disrespect of other people's time and inability to stick to a hiring strategy, were major red flags for me. They lost me as an employee but also as a customer, as I can't support an organization that lacks that ability to make decisions, stick to them and respect other people's time and money. I hope this review will help you optimize your hiring process for the next candidate and make things right.
