The interview process from the first interaction to the first day took almost 6 months. Once completing the Technical and the System Design interviews, I had a productive chat with the CEO of the company. Unfortunately during that time, I was too senior for the role and they decided to keep things on hold until the position reopens. Since I was not in a hurry this was during my summer vacation it was ideal for me to wait. After a few more weeks, we touched base and Dean invited me to fly over to Sydney all the way from Denmark for an onsite. It was the first time I flew from one corner of the world to the other to attend an interview. I was a bit nervous then again, I had already lived in Sydney so it was not a completely foreign place for me.
The onsite was for 3 days, and I pair with all most all the Engineers and pushed some code to production in the process. I was given a slot with all the departments from Operations, Subscriptions to Growth to get an overall idea of the business. Overall it was a positive experience for me. And I was also given the opportunity to be 100% certain if I would like to work with the team.
After a final chat with the co-founders over dinner, I was given a verbal offer over the phone. And the written offer was emailed before I flew back home.
In my opinion, the process would have been faster if the vacancy was open by the time my interview was done the first time. If you keep aside the waiting times (Immigration technicalities, visa limitations, etc ) the end to end process looks almost about 5-6 weeks.
But, overall it was a pleasant experience based on my situation. and Dean and the rest of the team were pretty helpful and responsive with almost weekly catch calls during the whole process.
