I was pleased to be contacted within a week by the HR recruiter. She called and asked to set up a phone interview. Since I'm prone to stuttering and stammering on the phone, I made extra preparation to have everything ready for the interview and to have all of my materials (job description, resume, portfolio) in front of me. The phone interview was a behavior-style interview, which doesn't exactly work well for over the phone. That means for the first half, she talked about the company, so I had the job description and the website in front of me. Then she asked me a very specific question about a line on my resume. I asked her to let me check, so that I could switch gears from job description to my copy of the resume. The HR recruiter then got INCREDIBLY IMPATIENT with me and repeated it in a condescending way with "you know it's on YOUR resume." I was absolutely appalled right then and there and then tried to answer it, but she was impatient with me for the rest of the interview. I emailed her to thank her for her time and also explained that I have a disability, and she wrote back that that was "unnecessary." This company said that it was an "equal opportunity employer on the website" but clearly it's not or the HR Recruiter had never talked to anyone different from her before or she's never stepped out of her comfortable NJ suburb. Unbelievable.
