      Senior Backend Engineer Interview

      2 Dec 2020
      Anonymous employee
      Trondheim
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Form3 (Trondheim) in Nov 2020

      Interview

At first I talked to one of the in-house recruiters who explained about Form3 and asked about my experience and background. Very receptive to questions and trying to make sure that you have a good overview of the process and what is expected. Next I was to finish a technical coding assignment to implement a client consuming a small part of their API in Go. The task itself is not too hard, but it's important to read their API documentation and deliver production-level code with good tests. Focus on the core functionality and describe any bells and whistles you might have wanted to add in the future as part of the README. There also is no set time limit for the assignment, so you can relax and just focus on making a quality solution. If your assignment is good enough to move on, the next stage is a 3-part interview with 3 different engineers. The first part is a quick description of the Form3 architecture and a code review of your assignment. The second part is a series of technical questions/discussion. Rather than focusing on a specific language, it will revolve around things like the OSI model, TCP, UDP, HTTP, authentication mechanisms and so on. The third part is a live debugging session to simulate an incident happening in a distributed system. It takes around 90 minutes to finish the entire thing, so I was quite nervous beforehand. However, all the interviewers were extremely nice and professional throughout the discussion. I got the sense that they wanted me to succeed and tried to help me show myself from my best side. A very good experience overall! The day after the technical interview I got a call from the in-house recruiter saying they were happy with my performance and went through the terms of the suggested offer. How long the entire process takes depends on how much time you spend on the technical coding challenge and how soon you schedule the interviews. I roughly took 2-3 weeks to finish, but never had to wait for Form3. So, all in all, very responsive, professional and kind throughout. One of the best interview processes I've gone through!
