      Interview

There were three stages to the interview process: an initial meet and greet, a 3 hour technical assessment, and an interview. Everyone I spoke to in the process was very nice and the interview process was slow but good. After the process I was offered the job and accepted. I waited several weeks for the contract, at which point I was told that the job role had changed and there may be more steps to the interview process. I spoke to the hiring manager for the new role and was told that the new job hadn’t been posted yet but when it was I was welcome to apply. I have since not heard from the company again. A huge waste of time and a massive disappointment.

      Interview

I had a first stage interview with Flyt which went really well - the interviewer spoke about the position and the company and he was a really lovely guy. I was then contacted to move onto the next round which was a technical assessment. I was given a 3 hour slot where Flyt would send over the task, I would complete it unsupervised & I would send my work back 3 hours later. The first task was to make a high-level project plan for a POS integration. The brief gave very little information (only a small paragraph) so i included a scope, Gantt chart, Sprint lifecycle and a communications plan (as much as I could do in 3 hours with the second task). My feedback from this task was that it was not detailed enough and I didn’t include a RACI - despite the lack of detail in the task brief. They also penalised me for not making my document branded (despite not providing me any branding whatsoever - very nitpicky in my opinion). They also penalised me for not including something in my plan which I did email 10 minutes into the 3 hours for clarification but I never received a reply. The second task was to use Postman to call an API to find some information, this was pretty straight forward if you use a tutorial so had no problems there. Overall on paper they seem like a really good company to work for but I was incredibly let down and disappointed with their behaviour. The process was not personal whatsoever past the initial interview and I feel like I dodged a bullet. Flyt do not seem very empowering so I wouldn’t recommend their recruitment process to others. They talk about being human based and agile and modern yet scrutinised my work for not providing enough waterfall processes & documentation which seems hypocritical to me.

Hi there, Thanks for your feedback. At Flyt, we believe, we are transparent about our hiring process (we outlined this in the job spec and again when we first invite candidates to interview with us). It's a real shame that you are disappointed with our behaviour. We created the technical assessment to be completed in a time block which, as you know, the candidates give us their preferred time/ date. We feel the information and brief we provide is enough for candidates to really show their experience in a timed way (adjustments can be provided if so requested). In addition, and to take pressure away from individuals needing to be assessed in front of someone, we created this "take home test". The next stage, which unfortunately you did not experience, is a more in depth discussion with candidates We send questions in advance of the interview so individuals have time to prepare. In response to your comment about "They talk about being human based and agile and modern yet scrutinised my work for not providing enough waterfall processes & documentation which seems hypocritical to me". We are, at the end of the day, still a company where we need to have an aligned approach. We give our team guide rails that enable them to be agile in their approach, however, we do interact with different stakeholders where we need to set clear expectations. We are proud of our hiring process and have found some brilliant Project Managers who have joined our Flyt team. We appreciate this process may not be for everyone but by being open from the offset to what it entails, and being where we can transparent of our asks, we believe it follows our values and highlights the expectations in who we hire. Should you have any suggestions in how we can improve this then feedback is always welcomed - core@flyt.io Thanks Vicki People Lead, Flyt

      Project Manager Interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Flyt in Feb 2021

      Interview

First stage interview was quite brief and involved repeating information already provided in my cv and via the online question responses required with my initial application, rather than giving much room to expand upon how my previous experience might be applicable at Flyt (or not) which is what I’d usually expect from a screening interview to ensure we are all on the same page about the fit. I was very excited for this company and the role and did a lot of interview research and prep, but found the interview and communications around it to be a bit deflating and impersonal - like I was just one of many interviewees, which may well be correct. I passed through to the next stage but withdrew after choosing to trust my gut. The next stage would have been a 3 hour technical assessment, without prior preparation time, which seemed an odd choice to judge someone with relevant work experience in a successful mid level role (not someone fresh out of university with nothing to talk through in an interview format, which could well justify extensive testing for fairness and to trigger further conversation). I was originally going to do the assessment despite my misgivings, but it was the lack of advance information or even an applicable example to enable me to practise on the HTTP request tool (that I had to download especially for the test) that made my mind up for me. Rightly or wrongly, it felt like a big chunk of my own time was expected to be given up with minimum time invested in the recruitment process by Flyt itself in a personal way that would have enabled me to get to know them, or to introduce me to the assessment format to maximise the use of my time. An interview goes both ways, and this process felt very skewed towards the company, which left me thinking that it wasn’t a good fit and that I likely wasn’t on a particularly short list of candidates either. This was a shame, as on paper the culture and company sound massively exciting.

Hi, Thank you for your feedback. The first stage interview is often quite brief. We are fortunate to have a number of applications for our roles and highlight to candidates when we first invite you to chat with us that it will be a brief chat, approximately 20mins or so. We appreciate that you may have found it repetitive to repeat information that you have on your CV but we think that chatting this through is, often, far more valuable than what is written on paper. It’s great that you were initially excited about this company and the role. Thank you for all the research you did. We are sorry that you felt the interview and communication around this was a bit deflating and impersonal. We will be sure to feed this back to the team. You are correct in that the next stage was a 3 hour technical assessment. However, we ask at this stage when an appropriate day or time is suitable for you so I am unsure why you felt you didn’t have enough preparation time. The onus is on you to let us know what is a reasonable time for you to prepare. By the task in the technical assessment, it shows the level of experience that we would like to see which appears from your feedback was not aligned. We value our interview process and, whereas some people could find it being a large chunk of time to invest in a company, we outline our interview process from the very point of seeing the role being advertised. I agree that an interview goes both ways but the technical assessment is a part of the interview process which, we believe, helps to fairly explore project management skills. Should you have any suggestions in how we can improve this then feedback is always welcomed - core@flyt.io Thanks Vicki People Lead, Flyt
