I applied online. I interviewed at FlightAware (Houston, TX) in Apr 2025
Interview
Recruiter call followed by a coding test. The questions were not the usual leetcode style ones but problems reflecting flight data and environments. Was interesting.
After successfully completing the technical interview, I was invited to a system design interview. However, just an hour later, the interview was abruptly cancelled due to what they described as a "miscommunication."
It was quite frustrating to prepare for an interview only to have it cancelled without any clear explanation or follow-up. This left me questioning the coordination and communication within the recruitment process.
While I understand that scheduling conflicts can happen, the lack of transparency and the sudden change felt unprofessional. I expected a more considerate and organized approach from a reputed company like FlightAware.
I hope the team can improve their candidate communication and scheduling practices moving forward.
I applied online. The process took 4 days. I interviewed at FlightAware
Interview
I had an initial 15 minute interview with the recruiter and was told I wasn't really qualified for the position. Not sure why I was contacted for the interview in the first place if they felt that way. I was then asked to do a self-recorded HireVue interview which was strange and uncomfortable.
I applied through other source. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at FlightAware in May 2024
Interview
Meeting with recruiter went as expected and was moved onto the Technical Interview. Tech interview was delivered as a voice only zoom, but interviewer was late and was unable to get zoom to work so had to use a time limited session, which we had to reconnect to several times during the 90 mins.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
all the questions were string manipulation, 1) Reverse a string, 2) Remove non alpha numerics from a string, 3) if a list of numbers has a repeat return true if not return false, 4) given a file of rows, parse and count the number of occurances of each value in a given row. Simple algorithmic problems really. Weird thing was that the interviewer was completely quiet, felt like coding in a room with a glass wall.
