      Lead Instructor Interview

      8 Nov 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Austin, TX
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Flatiron School (Austin, TX) in Oct 2019

      Interview

Initially had a phone screen to discuss my past experiences and current work. This went smoothly and successfully. Along the way to my next step, I was given lots of helpful information and always had a response with help if requested. The next step was a video technical screening, where my interviewer was a lead instructor that mocked as a student while I attempted to troubleshoot some of his/her code. This was a positive experience as well, and I was able to get answers to any questions that I had for my interviewer immediately after the session. I was again informed that I would be invited for a final onsite interview, and was given much more helpful information as well as a quick response time for any questions that I had. The onsite would require me to prepare a "live lecture", then be prepared to modify my lecture after an audience gives me feedback on what to adjust. The actual onsite ended up oddly consisting of being delivered to a small private room where I sat alone with a link to a video interview. In this first part of my interview, I delivered a lecture to an audience of one - my online interviewer halfway across America - before the campus lead stepped in before I could finish to begin asking me behavioral questions. Part-way through this interview, the education manager walked in to begin asking me nearly the same questions. After receiving positive feedback from both of the physically present interviewers, I was sent off to wait for a response. I received no response either to my thanking them for the experience or of any decision at all, despite asking about 2 weeks after the final onsite. After devoting multiple hours to this interview by preparing a live lecture and performing a technical interview during the workday, it seems cold and unprofessional to respond with absolutely nothing after having previously been given so much feedback. Other reviews seem to have similar experiences.
