I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at FactSet

Not a single person smiled. I solved every DS&A problem although struggled initially not because I didn't know it, but the strict faces made me nervous and I had to keep backspacing and retyping.

Question 1
The last question was how to handle table functions like sorting and filtering with big data. I had not worked with that scale of data before so I didn't know what they were referring to. I knew the concept of db views and indexing, and was able to implement server side handling of big data in table renders in less than 48 hrs. Why companies pass on something that can be picked up in such a short time is beyond me. Somehow length of experience is valued more than learning aptitude in some places, probably due to resource constraints and project timelines. At FAANG's, they're more willing the pick up the brightest candidates even with less exp.

It was a very casual interview. I was told the interview would start at 8:45 AM but it started around 10 AM. The interviewer was very friendly and walked me through my thought process towards solving the given problem. There were two rounds of interviews, purely technical though I did not get shortlisted for the second round.
