I was contacted via email to schedule a phone interview. HR representative was ~15 minutes late for the call, which should have been my first red flag. The call went well, but when it came to discussing salary my proposed range was laughed off. While I'm open to learning about what is reasonable/workable for the government contractor, the HR person made it seem as if it were too much simply because it was just a librarian position. A position that requires, at minimum, a Masters degree--but okay.
After this, I was prompted to schedule a Zoom call and asked if I could schedule for a specific date or time. I asked if there were any other options available (as I'm currently working at a library & adjusting an existing weekly schedule is difficult). I was pretty much told that it was the only option so I agreed. Then they asked me if I was sure. ??? You made it seem like I had no choice, but...okay.
The Zoom call involved a presentation about the contractor & a series of typical interview questions. It lasted about 30 minutes and really felt like it was done simply to check off a box for a diversity quota.
