      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Equinix

      Interview

I applied online at Equinix’s website. After one week, my application was upgraded to review status for the position. Did not come as a surprise to be reviewed for the position since my qualifications for the position are supported by twenty years’ experience in my field, marketing communications. A fielded, which truly requires those of us working in marketing communications to be “a jack of all trades and ‘MASTER’ of all.” Weeks later, the status was changed to "null." To be specific, the definition of null is "to be without value" or "amounting to nothing" or "nonexistent." I would not waste an hour of my time, nor the employer’s time, to apply for a position I am not qualified for, in the first place. If this is how Equinix views highly qualified applicants; what are their perceptions of the employees currently working within the organization? How do they treat those employees? “Null” was a terrible choice of words. Why not just update the status to "Not Selected." How many other poor communication problems exist within Equinix? There are a number of Equinix reviews on other websites calling out internal communication problems. As a telecommunications entity I would imagine the CEO, the CMO—likely charged with internal and external organizational communications, and more specifically the CHRO would have a vested interest in corporate communications to ensure not only the best and brightest are hired, but to always maintain a positive corporate brand image with every person they encounter in business, in marketing, in hiring, throughout the employment process, and so much more. The big picture really does matter! Treating applicants as second-class citizens does not positively reflect on an organization and its brand. I for one am not certain, I would want to work for an organization that does not understand the context of a word any more than an employer would not hire an applicant that cannot write.

Thank you for calling this to our attention. As we rolled out a new Applicant Tracking System this year, we are still working through a few bugs in the system. One of our team members is currently looking into the null status that you have reported and, thanks to your feedback, will be seeing to it that all necessary adjustments are made. We regret that this back-end bug had such a negative effect on your candidate experience during the application process and we want you to know that we are working hard to have this amended quickly. UPDATE 2/25/2016 -- Good news! Upon further investigation, our team has uncovered the root cause of the "null" status, and taken the proper measures to ensure the appropriate candidate status will now be featured within the applicant tracking system. Going forward (and thanks to your feedback), candidates will not have the same issue. Candidate experience is important to us and we thank you for your patience and partnership in helping us get this resolved.
